All Skyjack aerial work platforms are equipped with a manual storage box. The
weather resistant plastic box is located either on the platform or in the base control
area. The manual storage box should always be in good repair – attached securely to
the machine, no missing parts, and weather tight to keep the documents inside clean
and dry. The box contains important documents for personnel who use the aerial work
platform particularly the Skyjack Operating Manual. The Skyjack Operating Manual must
be with the aerial work platform at all times. All new Skyjack aerial work platform
models are shipped with this manual in the storage box.
The Skyjack Operating Manual must be the correct manual for the model and
serial number of the work platform on which it is placed. Reprints of the Skyjack
Operating Manual are permitted but they must be complete, legible and correct for the
aerial platform on which it is placed. Skyjack has the operating manuals in .pdf format
available for printing on our website www.skyjack.com .
Depending on which country the aerial work platform is used, there may be other
documents that must be in the manual storage box. For example, in the UK, the manual
storage box must contain the current 6 month LOLER Inspection Form along with the
Skyjack Operating Manual. Other countries might require different documents to be with
the aerial work platform at all times, so it is important to know the regulations and
requirements for your area.

A Liverpool businessman has been fined £112,000 after a labourer died following a fall from the roof of an industrial unit, just months after another worker was injured in a fall at the same site.
John McCleary fell 15 feet while fitting roof panels at a construction site in Toxteth being managed by Taj ul Malook Mann. He lost his balance while on a narrow beam he was using as no scaffolding had been erected.
The 51-year-old father-of-two, from Toxteth, was paralysed from the waist down and died of pneumonia just over seven months later as a result of his injuries. Mr Mann was prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) following Mr McCleary's death.
Liverpool Crown Court heard Mr Mann had hired Mr McCleary to fit roof panels on an industrial unit he owned in High Park Street, Toxteth. But no scaffolding was supplied and Mr McCleary had to carry out the job while standing on four-inch wide steel beams, leading to him losing his balance and falling.
He underwent an eight hour operation after the incident on 12 June 2008 and was readmitted to hospital in December with illnesses related to his condition. He died on 27 January 2009.
During the HSE investigation, video was discovered which had been filmed by Mr McCleary on his mobile phone in the weeks before his fall. It shows labourers carrying out work while on top of the narrow roof beams.
Investigations also revealed a bricklayer had escaped with minor injuries after falling from scaffolding at the site in an earlier incident. The worker had refused to continue working for Mr Mann after the incident.
Taj ul Malook Mann, of Queen's Drive, Liverpool, admitted four breaches of health and safety regulations after failing to take steps to prevent a fall which could have resulted in injury, and failing to ensure that work on his site was being carried out safely. He also did not fulfil his legal duty to report the incident to HSE.
He was fined £112,000 and ordered to pay £19,331 in prosecution costs.

Urban Access, UK partners for TCA Lift A/S (formally Skako Lift A/S) have successfully delivered and commissioned one of their FS420 Wheeled Version, Falcon Spider lifts to Europe’s largest shopping centre.
Neil Wilkinson – Managing Director explains,
‘Procured directly by the Westfield Group, our initial design brief for the FS420 was to provide an innovative and ultra lightweight access strategy for use both internally and externally throughout the shopping centre for high level cleaning tasks, smoke detection equipment maintenance and testing, lighting maintenance and installation of decorations and marketing display banners. In addition, the proposed spiderlift access platform also had to perform its working at height tasks around and over the top of complex internal obstructions such as balconies, verandas, stairways and escalators. The unique double fly-jib facility employed by all of our Falcon Spiderlift products combined with an impressive working height of 42 metres, maximum outreach of 16 metres and fast operation resulted in our proposal and successful bid to supply the lightweight FS420 Falcon Spider model.
In addition to the ‘basic’ FS420 model, many optional extras were eventually ordered to provide yet further unique operational benefits such as special PTFE stabiliser pads to further spread the loading on each stabiliser foot and prevent damage to the high quality flooring finish, non marking wheels, individual setting of each stabiliser leg, automatic stabilisation from the cage, all wheel drive for increased traction and torque on slopes, remote control drive facility, cage rotation, built in wind speed detection anemometer, 220 Volt outlet in the cage, high pressure air / water outlet in the cage, proximity sensors mounted around the base of the cage to prevent accidental collisions with the many glass facades throughout the centre, 3 cylinder Lombardini diesel engine for improved external performance and a double battery pack for increased internal performance.
Opened on the 13th September is East London. The shopping centre is located just next to the Olympic Park in London and it is the biggest urban shopping centre in Europe.
The Westfield Stratford City has over 300 shops, a 14-screen cinema, 70 restaurants, 3 hotels, a bowling alley and a casino. The shoppers can use the great variety of special offers and can shop comfortably and conveniently. The shopping centre will provide the main access to the Olympic park.
The Westfield Stratford City shopping centre is not just a shiny new mall. It has a great social effect because it creates new permanent jobs. About 95% of the centre has been let and it is claim that up to 8,500 jobs will be created. This is really beneficial in the current economical state where many people are left jobless.
Many people view the Westfield Stratford City shopping centre as the first stage of the transformation of East London. Some call it an important legacy of the 2012 Olympics. In addition, the building of the shopping centre has improved the public transport infrastructure by placing some of the most modern additions.
The Westfield Stratford City shopping centre will provide main access to the Olympic park and will display sporting events on large screens.
All this makes the biggest mall in Europe a heaven for shoppers as well as a project with great social benefits.'

Saint Michael’s Abbey in Farnborough, Hampshire have today taken delivery of their very own Genie Z60/34 RT self propelled boom lift.
Urban Access are supporting the sale of the pre-owned Genie access platform by providing an initial product familiarization handover along with annual on-site servicing, maintenance and bi-annual LOLER inspections. IPAF approved training for the monks will also be carried out as part of the overall package supplied.
Used predominantly for exterior cleaning and maintenance tasks on and around the grounds of the Abbey, the equipment specified was to have rough terrain capability and offer substantial working height, outreach, cage working area plus the flexibility of an independently controlled Fly-Jib.
Saint Michael’s Abbey, is a contemplative monastery of monks of the Benedictine Order about thirty miles from London where the monks live the Benedictine life in its classic or ‘continental’ form.
The heart of life there is the solemn celebration of the liturgy, sung in Latin to Gregorian Chant.
“Saint Benedict tells us that we are truly monks when we live by the work of our hands.” The Farnborough monks operate a busy farm and apiary, a bookbindery, a printing and publishing house, as well as the traditional monastic work of hospitality and can now look forward to carrying out all their own work at height in a safe and very efficient manner.
Built in 1880, the Empress Eugénie bought a house in Farnborough. Crushed by the loss of her husband Napoleon III in 1873 and the death in 1879 of her 23 year old son in the Zulu War, she built St Michael’s Abbey as a monastery and the Imperial Mausoleum.

Specifically designed for shopping centres, atriums, office buildings, airports and similar large internal volume buildings, is our small narrow-series Denkalift DL range of access platforms with a working height of 19 and 22 metres. The compact design of the lift, a width of only 890 mm, and the detachable basket makes it possible to use the lift, where no other lift can be used.
The built-in selfdrive system makes it easy for one person to transport the lift from working place to working place without use of other facilities.
As a standard, the lift is produced with drive on all 3 wheels. This results in the fact that transportation, even under difficult circumstances e.g. large rise or soft grounds, is no problem.
It can therefore be used on a number of varying terrains.

Urban Access have recently supplied and delivered a reconditioned Niftylift 90 Road Towable access platform, to one of our overseas customers based in Finland, used to maintain a countryside residence.
The equipment required needed to be as light as possible in order to move it around the property ideally by a heavy duty quad bike (with ice chains on), yet sturdy enough to handle the extreme environment in which it would be working.
With the property being located on a remote island, the use of heavier duty equipment would prove problematic and as the terrain was generally uneven, a product that could accommodate sloping ground conditions was identified by Urban.
The gable end on the property is the equivalent to three stories in height and access to this is via central driveway with steep banks either side. The Nifty 90 proved an ideal solution.
The distance to cross from the mainland to the island was approximately 140 meters over a frozen lake.
At the time of delivery, the weather conditions at the property was -10C and the thickness of ice was 30cm.
And for those of you that may wish to travel on a frozen lake at some point, here are the facts:
20cms of steel ice will carry 2.0 tons
25cm 3.0 tons
30cm 4.5 tons
40cm 7.0 tons
50cm 12.0 tons
If you drive a unit of 2.5 tons at 16 Km/hr and the depth of water below the ice is 2 meters the effective weight is 4 tons.
You just never know when you might need this information!!!!
